Allerhöchstens drei Produzenten (Dr. Dre, RZA und Prince Paul) stehen auf Augenhöhe mit DJ Premier als wichtigster Beat-Lieferant der 90er. Und keiner ihrer Beats klingen so unverwechselbar, aggressiv und roh wie diejenigen der New Yorker Legende. Neben Beats für Gang Starr seit dem 89er Debut arbeitete er für einige der wichigtsen East Coast Produktionen: Illmatic von Nas, Ready to Die von Notorious B.I.G., Reasonable Doubt von Jay-Z, The Sun Rises in the East von Jeru the Damaja und Black on Both Sides von Mos Def.

Immer auf der Suche nach neuen Abenteuern und Wegen seine Musikalität auszuweiten, stellte DJ Premier in Japan kürzlich seine neue Live Band vor. Bass, Schlagzeug, Gitarre und Horns versehen versehen seinen Katalog an klassischen Produktionen mit interessanten Akzenten und einer neuen Art von Groove. Seine Arbeiten für Gang Starr, Jay-Z, Biggie, Nas und ungezählte mehr reihen sich in der Show an neue Kompositionen, und vielleicht hört man manchen zukünftigen Classic an diesem Abend zum ersten mal.

I have a funky group of players assembled to play my classics and perform new things. I can play a little drums, bass and guitar but not like these guys, so I will stay on the wheels. In a short four-days of meeting and rehearsing we clicked as if we knew each other for years. This is a new adventure into expanding my brand. I will always DJ, produce and be an artist because that?s what artist?s do. We open new lanes, but never close the lanes that we already opened. Keeping the roots of your foundation in tact is what gives you longevity. Basically what I?m saying is: Let?s Ride!"
